No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
The Burden of Guilt
Until you’ve passed it forward
I have an unmeasured amount
of pent-up anger
It’s a nuclear waste depository
in an encased concrete chamber
buried deep in denial
I can feel
it has begun to leach its caustic substance
stripping away the tin layer
of tolerance
Endangering
an already cracked foundation
built for reasoning with arseholes
It is said
no good deed goes unpunished
A statement long misinterpreted
as the doer eventually contributing
to their own demise
in whatever form of punishment
should manifest itself
But truth be known
the punishment will always be found in
your burden of guilt
It is a guilt
that burns like a fiery serpent
slithering its way
through your conscience
in search of the doorway to redemption
No good deed goes unpunished
Not until you have paid it forward
then and only then
will your burden of guilt
your fiery serpent be vanquished
I once had an unmeasured amount
of pent-up anger
Not unlike a nuclear waste depository
having cracked its concrete tomb
leached constantly
having stripped away all tolerances
and I was in danger
of becoming an unreasonable
arsehole
But I have laid down
my burden of guilt
simply by paying forward
that one good deed
I, having never said
THANK YOU!
