Life was so clear one minute ago
The Murky Lines of Clarity
Tell me again about me, please
The late Leonard Cohen’s song,
“Dance me to the end of love”
One of my favorite pieces of his
and
of musical selection in general.
It represents to me
The Murky Lines of Clarity
that we all must face
as we dance to the end of love
(If life be our one true love)
Our life
when at its birth
its crystal innocence
is a clarity,
visible even to the
unopened eyes of a baby
awaiting its entrance into its new world
Sometimes
in my sunset hour
when the sun and the horizon
meet in harmony
I can see that crystal clarity
that this life once afforded me
And
if I look very carefully
just for an instant
nothing seems Murky
And visions of the desert storm
having lost their ominous reign
streaks down my face
like dust now drowned in the rain
I can see clearly once again
And should you ask me this day
What is life
I would gladly share its wonders
having never experienced its strife
Sometimes
In my first waking hour
I can hear the sounds of morning
I can hear the ringing
of the distant clock tower
Eyes wide open
still no light can I see
And should you ask me this day
Is there life
Yes
I would say
But in reality
It only exists
Somewhere
In The Murky Lines Of Clarity
So dance me to the end of love
Dance me for as long as my feet
will stand
For when the song no longer sings
And the choir has long retired
It is then
In between
The Murky Lines Of Clarity
Our minds will be
as if they were before
trying to find
one last time
precious lost notes
of
familiarity.
