The Neglected Heroes

Remember, we’re always equal.

Forge, forge, forge.
Forge the metal away
Shape the metal to form diamonds,
to be displayed from necks to necks.

Wipe, wipe, wipe.
Wipe the windows clean
Hang yourself from the highest of heights
for them to enjoy a clearer sight.

Go! Mop the floor, spick and span.
Sweep the dust clean, before they leave a mark.
Drive the bus safely, but always keep the pace.
Be the first to arrive, last to leave the place.

Dress sharp, always to impress.
Hold the doors too as they egress!
Keep your gears intact, smile as well.
Just make sure you come when they ring the bell.

If they’re younger,
it won’t ever matter.
They can never look past the surface,
even if it’s gallantly tattooed across the face.

The privilege comes high in price,
yet your back carries the burden
of all the mouths you need to feed.

This is what the little guys have to do,
to be great.
