We All Come Up For Air
Eventually, matters not how long we can stay underwater,
we all come up for air.
Equally so, matters not how deeply buried our pain,
Eventually, it will surface again.
Best your pain surfaces under your direction
than to have arrived under your distraction.
In our attempts to use daily distractions to suppress
our emotional wounds,
we are oftentimes viewed as having no need for healing,
instead, more so we are viewed as someone
capable of the unending healing of others.
We are viewed as the eternal Empath.
But this we are not!
We all hurt a little.
We all need to heal from time to time.
We all need to be loved.
Matters not how much love we have to give.
We are all broken.
We all long for a painless life to live.
We are all miles deep in emotional scars.
Some scars are just from the other day
more seriously so
others
are from lives long ago and now far away.
Ignoring our scars does not lessen the pain
And pretense lends itself nothing to gain.
Eventually, it all comes up for air,
For you, I want to be there.
I want to be the surface that cools your heat
the calm that settles your storm.
I want to be the winter in your summer’s heat.
Your summery warmth to take away
the bitter cold resentment of prematurely
growing old
because we all hurt a little.
