Lincoln fell in love with Amazon Prime as a freshman in college when Amazon let him do a three month trial. By the end of it, Lincoln was ready to pay for a full membership and never looked back. Tabitha on the other hand appreciates Amazon Prime, but is not heads over heels for it like Lincoln is. Now graduated college and learning to do adult things, we depend on Amazon to fulfill about 75% of our purchases.

When we had to move from the east coast, Philadelphia and Staten Island respectively, we traveled extremely light. Lincoln spent just under $200 in shipping while Tab spent about $400. We only shipped clothes, books, and other miscellaneous that we could not part with, so when we arrived at our new apartment, we needed to replenish our belongings and furnish our home. This is where Amazon Prime comes in.

Within a five days of moving into our new apartment, we spent about $1342 on 39 items and services. There were three things that cost $130 (wall mounting service for our TV), $200, and $600 (our 49’’ Curved Samsung TV) while the rest were around or less than $100 with an average of $34 over all purchases. If you take out those three items, we spent about $412 on the other 36 purchases for an average of $11 per item.

Him: Lincoln

Pros

  • Customer Service
  • Fast, free delivery
  • Easy returns. Sometimes they even let you keep the item while still giving you a full refund…
  • Easy search
  • Streamlined

Cons

  • Not sufficient for furniture shopping

Tips

  • Try not to browse the website as this can quickly lead to impulse purchases.

Her: Tabitha

Pros

  • Fast, free delivery: same hour, next day, two day shipping
  • Quick and efficient returns: pick up service even comes with labels for you
  • Cheap prices
  • Peace of Mind

Cons

  • Some products have poorer quality than they appear in pictures: utensils, laundry basket, cutting board, high ball “glasses”

Tips

  • Always read item description and be weary of misleading images and/or phrasing
  • Google item if fast delivery isn’t your biggest concern because you might be able to find it cheaper in a flash sale on another site ($170 lamp on Amazon was on sale for $35 on Target.com)
  • Read customer Q&A’s because someone has probably already asked about the thing you’re wondering about.

Conclusion

While there are a few cons we ran into while using Prime over the years, we are overwhelming pleased with the service. It costs $99 a year or $10.99 per month. If you are a student, you can get it for $49 a year.

If you shop on Amazon often, you should save yourself a great deal of time and pay the cheap cost of membership for Prime. It’ll be worth it, we promise. Actually, if you shop on the internet often at all, you should probably be spending your dollars on Amazon in most cases.

If you aren’t sure you are ready to shell out the cost for membership, you can do a trial period of Amazon Prime. If you are going to do the trial, please use this link to support us.
