Searching for Something Real

In a world of hype and mass production, some are searching for something real.
By ‘real’, I mean something essential, something true, something that is itself the point.
It’s like if you were to go to climb Mount Everest.
Arriving at the base, you enter a small building and you’re given virtual reality glasses that take you through the journey to the summit. Upon finishing the film, the attendee congratulates you and directs you to exit and head back where you came from. With your climbing gear on, you head back with a deep feeling of emptiness.
You were looking for the real thing and you didn’t get it.
The shortness of life has a way of driving people to find the ‘real’ in it.
There’s something so ‘right’ about the fact that the real in real life would be found in something (or someone) that is so easy to believe is not in fact real.
The end of the search for something real begins at the border of the presence of God.
