The Procrastinator

He lives inside each of us.
Tomorrow is his passion. Later is his language.
He’s a conman of the utmost sophistication.
Wearing a different disguise and using a different name, he shows up chez nous almost every day.
We see him, trust him, and hand him our credit card.
He promises he’ll deliver tomorrow.
But, he almost never does.
He’s The Procrastinator.
Tomorrow is his passion. Later is his language.
He’s a fraud, a fake, a phony.
No matter his disguise, no matter his name, he always sounds like this: “You can do it tomorrow. This can wait. Do something else worthwhile.”
When his marketing begins to lose its appeal, he aims to divert and distract.
He sells entertainment and when that doesn’t work he convinces us to clean, polish, and organize anything — as long as it’s not actually a priority.
We keep him around and we put up with his ploys because what he deals us is actually a drug.
It numbs our fear of facing this fact:
The thing I’m not doing is the thing I’m scared to do.
Facing this fact is first step to finishing the task.
*ding dong*
He’s at your door.
As always, he’s here to push you the drug and distract you from doing the thing you need to do — confronting the fear by doing the thing.
Don’t buy the drug. Close the door and do the work.
Tomorrow is his passion. Later is his language.
He’s The Procrastinator.
