What if today was the last day of someone else’s life?

Let me throw a thought at you…

You’ve probably heard the common question, “What if today was the last day of your life?”

The question focuses your attention on what really matters in your life. The purpose of the question is, of course, to inspire you to change your actions to align with what is really valuable to you.

But, what if you shifted the question? What if, instead, you asked, “What if today was the last day of someone else’s life?”

What if it was the last day of that person’s life?

Would that change anything?

Like the first question, this new question focuses our attention on what really matters about other people — their inherent value.

How would you now treat that person today? What would you say to them? How would you talk about them? What would you think about them? What would you do for them?

Now…

What if you lived everyday like it was someone’s — that person’s — last?
