Lakeshore Learning STEAM Teachers Workshop

Hillsboro — On November 4th, 2017, approximately 50 odd educators met in the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough for a full 8 hour workshop. The reason? Education. Specifically, to learn techniques for incorporating STEAM and classroom management methodology into Pre-K and Kindergarten level classes.

The workshop, entitled “Building Your STEAM Team and Classroom m Management Strategies,” was provided by Lakeshore Learning’s Professional Services Group. Lakeshore’s PSG team offers, “personalized, hands-on learning services designed to support the unique and growing needs of teachers and educators.” Clearly, they know what they’re doing, as the excitement and laughter remained at a high during a long day of nonstop instruction.

The most widespread version of the education system discussed in the class was STEM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. However, Lakeshore’s workshop leader preferred the acronym STEAM, with an “A” representing Art. Another option discussed in class —and my personal favorite — incorporates all five elements of STEAM, with the addition of Reading, forming the acronym STREAM.
