Started the day off right with an Thai iced tea latte (obviously Liz ordered it) and some stir fried beef with egg! The tea was decent, 7/10. The beef was a poor cut but had a pretty good flavor. 6/10, would probably not low quality asian beef again.

We decided to do a half day Thai cooking class last minute. Here’s a few pics of what we did.

Showed us their garden and their super hot chili peppers. The smaller it is, the spicier it is. This one would probably destroy my butt when I go to poop.

We started off with an appetizer, which was a very interesting DIY. You make a cone out of the leaf and add grilled coconut flakes, peanut, garlic, shallots, and a lime with skin like so:

Was actually really good. The sauce was sweet and made it super palatable. The lime rind (that you’re supposed to eat) was not super palatable.

Cooked some Khao Soi, which was the local dish and was pretty good! I guess I’m masterchef Thailand.

Also made some basil chicken, which was exactly like you’d expect. Ingredients are pretty basic, it was mainly the sauce that’s the “hard” part.

Overall cooking was fun but they do most of the hard part for you. The only thing you really do is combine the ingredients in a big wok and stir it around. They pre-prepare some sauces (which sometimes make the dish) and change the heat for you, which I also think is very important. 6/10, is interesting for white people, but honestly my cooking (Chinese) is pretty similar in style already.

One thing to note is how spicy everything is in Thailand. It’s REALLY spicy. I basically got the “1" level of everything (it goes 1–5). There were some people we sat next to who got level 2 and basically couldn’t even finish some of their food. Beware.

We stopped at 7-eleven (which are super popular here) and while it was pouring rain to snack up. Almond pocky, tastes like ferrero rocher, 8/10, I like almonds in my mouth.

Pretty cool to see when it rains for the whole city to shut down. Since there’s a lot of people on mopeds and you can’t really ride in the rain, the streets clear up. The city kind of pauses as they wait about 30 minutes for the rain to clear.

Got a coke with dinner. Comes in a fancy glass bottle!

At the airport, decided to go with a beer and a snack. The snack was basically roasted chicken (??) flavor with some sweet and sour sauce. Was actually surprisingly good, better than expected. 7/10, would snack again.

A great lazy day in Chiang Mai, just roaming the streets and eating our way through it.
