I remind myself that each new day
is a new fresh start — and so I awaken
It is 6 am, the house is quiet
and I meditate for ten minutes on blessings
then brew some chai tea, hot and bursting
with spices and honey and a dash of cream
I settle down at my desk — thoughts mingling
What creative endeavor should I embark upon?

There are projects left unfulfilled:
poems lingering, unfinished
paintings awaiting a spark of inspiration
stories percolating in my brain —
I want to dip my pen into my wellspring
and sling inky tar upon the walls
then wait for something, anything
to take form and shape and make sense

But soon, the spouse will be home from work
the house will cease to be a haven —
Why didn’t I arise at 3 am when my muse
in her infinite wisdom, stirred me?
