A phenomenological observation of daily life in different conditions

1) Learn how to explore future scenarios

2) Learn a methodology by which to document and assess future living scenarios

Designing for the future is never easy. It is becoming even more difficult in a world of such heightened uncertainty and unpredictability.

Lab Session Preparation

This exercise is designed to provide you with an understanding of the possible living conditions in the future so as to allow you to envisage solutions that could be interesting and inspirational.

Consider living with no single use plastic

Consider living with a limited amount of weekly water supplies

Consider using local solar energy or using solar batteries for your needs

Try living with a limited supply of energy per day

Consider living vegan or plant based diets

Consider using different forms of mobility

Consider zero waste

Don’t buy anything for 10 days

etc.

Prepare yourself and your environment, and the people you live with for your change of lifestyle. If you are going to live no-waste for a week start planning where you will buy your food, how you will wrap it, if you are going to live with a limited amount of water, start planning where you will store the amount you can use, how you will measure consumption. If you are going no plastic think of where you can buy products with no packaging etc.

Read blogs and articles of people that are doing the same thing e.g. no-wasters blogs, vegan blogs, etc.

We have set up a Medium publication for you to record publicly your daily progress and experiences.

Adhere strictly to the commitment you have taken (try not to cheat). Keep a diary of all your tricks and solutions. Take pictures of any solution you come up with, of products that fit your task
