Did you ever stopped and asked yourself why your mind is overwhelmed with thoughts? Sometimes it can be very difficult to be surrounded with all of them. Ever wondered how it would be to just live in the moment? But how do you actually do it? Stick with me and I’ll share with you how I achieved mindfulness.

Previously on Fail Coach…I have talked about mindfulness and what it is about (check out the #YOLO post here!)

You don’t have to be a genius to find out the many advantages of always living 100% in the moment. Nevertheless, like many other things in life, it sounds easier to say than actually acting.

Well then, let’s go step by step…

You see, most of the times people think mindfulness is only about meditation and several other techniques, but in fact I’ve found that it is actually a way of life.

Yes, it does have its origins in Oriental culture and while mindfulness can be practiced quite well without Buddhism, Buddhism cannot be practiced without mindfulness.

In any case, if you are interested in incorporating more consciousness in your life, here are a few ways to do it.

1. Always positive!

Thinking in a positive way and keeping your mind open to new things is the first door towards mindfulness. Take my word for it, when you go alongside with optimism, you’ll always find something to enjoy.

2. Curiosity won’t kill you

Mindfulness begins with awareness and it must include the willingness to be with what is here. Therefore, interest can lead us to mindful exploration, coming to fully know the experience as it is.

Soon, you’ll find yourself looking at the world with new eyes.

Mindfulness is disruptive, says author Patricia Rockman, because it changes how we pay attention to things, and ultimately, our experience of the world.

3. Take your time

This is one of the key aspects of living a mindful life. If you rush through life, you miss important things. Taking time for what matters will be what makes you go: “Huh, this thing/activity is actually great! Wonder why I had never noticed it before…”

As often as you can, try this little exercise: stop whatever you are doing, take a look around and truly appreciate what’s around you.

4. Be thankful

By being grateful, you are “closing the circle”. This is the circle: you give — things happen — you receive — you give thanks; and then it all starts again. This also means that you are creating an entryway for new things to come into your life.

Don’t take anything for granted. Especially, enjoy the little things in your life, like having hot water in your shower or a cozy bed, etc. You’ll instantly feel the benefit of doing this in the bottom of your heart.

5. Be like a kid!

In a few words, take for example how kids look at the world. They do it in such an innocent and naïve way. When they feel something, they let themselves feel it 100%.

They get to see some truths that we adults couldn’t even imagine at first sight. Kids lack the society’s pressure and rules.

“Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be?” — Charles Bukowski

So don’t let anything else tell you how you should look at the world, because the genuine aspect of your perspective is the essence of mindfulness.

When you can see what is here and now without imposing any judgement upon it, you’ll have done it. That’s the true goal.
