Why should
death hold fear?
— would
it, if we’re clear
both in heart
and mind
that no dart
could find
chink
in one’s armor;
think
with calmer
certitude
of acts and morals,
without turpitude,
none could quarrel
with? — In short,
leave chance
for naught
untoward, in advance:
prevent being caught
pants down, by surprise
(where the hair’s short),
widening of eyes
or yo-yo chill
making sport of spine
— rather, pay bill
and fine,
and sit
— all settled — still
for that thievish visit
in the night:
prepare
to play it (rite) right
— from entrees to caviar
and champagne,
followed by cigar —
in civilized vein
insofar
as time will permit,
replete
with good conversation, wit;
complete
with toast —
