The Great War began in Nineteen Fourteen
After Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed
At Sarajevo in a bloody scene.
Leaders around the world were less than thrilled.

Through all the carnage, destruction, and gore,
Two opposing alliances emerged.
At the beginning of the First World War,
Allied and Central Powers’ conflict surged.

France, Britain, and Russia became combined,
Becoming Allied forces in the war.
Then the Central powers became aligned
Consisting of Germany and some more.

After four long years of carnage and gore,
The Central Powers simply lost the war.

Note:

The Great War kicked off after the successful assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, on June 28, 1914. The Archduke was assassinated by a 19-year-old member of Young Bosnia, Gavrilo Princip. Franz Ferdinand’s death ultimately led to Austria-Hungary’s allies and Serbia’s allies declaring war on each other. With this declaration of war, World War I officially began on July…
