During the year nineteen hundred and one,
President William McKinley was slain
By shots fired out from a concealed gun.
His assassin was just a bit insane.

On September the sixth, nineteen oh one,
Leon Czolgosz pulled the trigger and shot
Bullets from a gun and then tried to run.
He didn’t get far before being caught.

One bullet entered the president’s gut
This bullet allowed infection to spread
The president tried hard to pull through but,
Eight days after the shooting, he was dead.

And just like that, William McKinley died,
With the president’s loss felt nationwide.

Note:

On September 6, 1901, the 25th president of the United States was shot by Leon Czolgosz in Buffalo, New York. Czolgosz was an anarchist. While President McKinley was greeting and shaking hands with the public at the Pan-American Exposition, Czolgosz waited in line to meet the president.

Once Czolgosz reached the front of the line, President McKinley extended his arm to shake hands…
