Gravity Works Wins First CMPRSA PACE Award

Last night, Gravity Works received two awards at the Central Michigan Public Relations Society of America’s PACE Awards Ceremony – not bad for our first time entering!

The PACE Awards are mid-Michigan’s highest public relations honor. They are awarded to agencies who — in the judgment of their peers — have successfully addressed a contemporary issue with professional skill, creativity and resourcefulness.

Gravity Works received a Pinnacle Award (highest honor) in the Website Tactic category for our work with the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) website redesign.

WCAA operates and manages the Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), one of the top-rated airports in the U.S. Gravity Works partnered with WCAA to redesign the public-facing website for all WCAA properties, including DTW.

Our team worked with WCAA through the entire web development process including discovery/research, information architecture, web design, user testing, and accessibility testing.

The result is an attractive, powerful website that provides users with valuable tools and information from any device.

Travelers can easily navigate the website and access real-time data including flight statuses, parking availability and security wait times directly from the homepage. We’re currently in the process of building interactive maps to help travelers find specific gates, amenities and services throughout the terminals. By pulling information from live-data sources, we are able to help travelers prepare for a smooth airport experience.

Our team also received an Excellence Award (second place) for our work with the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) on their website redesign project. ABEM certifies physicians and works to improve the quality of emergency medical care. With their new website, physicians now have faster access to the information and resources they need to become and stay certified.

The ABEM team celebrates their award recognition with us at the PACE Awards Ceremony.

“The PACE awards celebrates an important sector in our creative community,” said Jeff McWherter. “It differs from other award competitions we’ve entered since it’s judged on results and real change. Our professional communicators are driving real impact across Lansing, our state, and beyond.

Graphic Designer, Kelsey O’Neill (middle left), created a SnapChat filter for the event. Content strategist, Hailey Whisler (far left) served as a member of the 2019 PACE Committee.

I’m very grateful for the Pinnacle Award. The WCAA project is a great source of pride for my team and myself. It challenged us to group all our skills together to create a website that would support so many different people.

We are also thrilled for the team at ABEM for their deserving recognition.”

Gravity Works’ content strategist, Hailey Whisler, has been actively involved in the planning of this year’s PACE Awards Ceremony as a member of the PACE committee.

In addition, our graphic designer, Kelsey O’Neill created a SnapChat Geofilter for the event as part of an in-kind sponsorship.

“This is my second time serving on the PACE committee and both experiences have been really rewarding,” said Hailey Whisler. “It’s incredible what our small group can pull together. There’s a lot of exceptionally talented PR practitioners in our area doing some incredible work. I’m glad we could give them the special night they deserve.”
