Catapult is the Highbury-based startup giving people a more awesome way to work. The app connects people looking for temporary work with employers who need to fill shifts. Candidates simply apply online and attend a short induction to start receiving shift offers with some of the UK’s coolest companies straight to their phones.

The Catapult office comes to life every day at 7.30 am when Molly, or another member of the operations team arrives for the early shift.

Our ops team is the first point of contact for candidates and clients, so they work shifts to make sure someone’s there to handle emergencies and general queries. They’re the first in and the last to leave — in other words, they’re the superhero problem solvers!

The rest of the team gets in around 9.00 am. We hot desk so as soon as people settle into their spot for the day, they get to work running inductions, pitching to clients, releasing product updates or coming up with creative new ideas for recruiting more exceptional candidates.

Mostly, the team is based in Highbury but we like for people to work remotely if they want. On Fridays Jette, our Head of Supply, works from her place in Berlin. Matus and Kev from the dev team also work remotely. Matus is in Prague and Kev in Bristol. Slack makes it really easy for them to stay on top of what’s going on and office visits mean we still get to hang out with them every couple of months.

We put a lot of time and effort into finding superstar candidates for the platform and a big part of that is the induction process. Inductions throughout the day are our chance to meet applicants and get a feel for their personalities.

Lunch is pretty much like lunch in other offices — except on Thursdays. Our Thursday team lunches are a real highlight of the week. It’s when we catch up on what each team is doing, get company updates and ask any questions we have, while we get stuck into a big order from Deliveroo or a picnic of treats from Waitrose. It’s also just nice to have everyone sit and eat lunch together in one room.

People tend to be in and out of the office in the afternoons. Whether it’s the sales team running to and from pitches and meetings, the induction team guiding potential candidates through the different steps in our onboarding process or internal meetings, it seems like everyone’s on the go after lunch.

Things wind down at about 6.00 pm each day, except on Tuesday evenings — that’s when we catch up on extra work if we need too. The great thing about sticking around a little bit later is not only do you get a bit of a head-start on the week but there’s always a group ordering take away, which is usually enjoyed over a bite-size screening of a film.

If you’re interested in joining the team at Catapult, why not apply here?
