After a few weeks of getting to know some of the teams recruiting via Unicorn Hunt, in the On The Hunt series, we decided it was time to meet some of the amazing people that have successfully been Hired!

First up the aptly named Doug Hunter tells us all about his journey.

So you got your job via Unicorn Hunt, that’s pretty cool. How did you hear about the site?

When I was 11 I was at school with Vicky (3beards). We went our separate ways at 13ish and didn’t have any contact for many many moons. About ten years later when living in Newcastle I saw that she was in the area and needed a phone charger, I got in touch and Vicky came for a brew [he means tea not beer] and proceeded to tell me all about Silicon Drinkabout and where she was working in the big smoke. When the time came for me to find a job, I asked Vicky and she mentioned the “magical beast” of a job board.

What do you like about UH and how does it compare to other job boards?

To be brutally honest, I haven’t really looked at many other jobs boards, I landed on my feet with my first graduate job through Unicorn Hunt and haven’t looked back.

And you landed a job with Dimoso! What was the process like once you made your application?

Well, when I had eventually graduated from Northumbria’s DFI course I reached out and there was a great PR internship at Dimoso on Unicorn Hunt. A phone call and an interview later, I was in PR.

Why do you like working at Dimoso?

Well, it has been a crazy couple of years but the job progression and trust in hard work that I have been given has been brilliant. Not having a PR background, my studies were all in Product Design, I know that Dimoso most likely took a gamble on me but could tell I was a techie that loves meeting new people. I have gone from Intern to Account Manager so far and have loved the family vibe we have, I have been able to work with amazing people from mobile game developers like Elex, Gram Games and 1der through to services like AppLovin, PropTech leaders like Rentr and recently a great dating app — Once.

Getting to know East London and the crazy tech scene here has been an eye-opener and one that I would recommend to anyone. Every day is a little different which is ideal for me and I don’t expect I will be going anywhere soon, not under my own steam anyway. Unless I get sent on work trips again; this year has included Vancouver for Pocket Gamer Connects, a couple of trips to Paris, a cheeky venture to Istanbul and even the heights of Glasgow!

Another great thing about being at Dimoso is that we are part of a network of agencies from around the world called Global One Communication — we have worked on some great projects together and traveled far and wide to be involved both professionally and socially.

How did you know it was the right job for you?

I was straight out of uni…. The word job was the important bit…. I joke, a bit, er.. I think it is a very rare thing to walk into a new environment and be excited by the work and the people. I am surrounded by great people and still buzz on the work as if it was my third week not third year.

Job Hunting is hard work — what is your best bit of advice to others on the hunt for the dream position?

It is rare that people genuinely know everything about what they are looking for. Take the interview, have a chat and be totally honest to yourself and to the potential employer — this comes across to people, you aren’t as good at bull****ing as you think. A good company will have you through the door from your CV, once you are there, you are just as important as the story about this one time you made one pound into one pound eighty-two.

Do you have any life long ambitions? We’d love to hear about them no matter how wild or wacky!

From when I was headed down the design route I had two ambitions, one was to walk down a street and see someone using a device or tool that I have designed and the second was to know that something I had designed had improved the lives of people less fortunate that us. I think that in this new direction in PR I have to adapt that somewhat but if I can help grow the awareness of a product or service that really can help down the line, I will be somewhat happy, if I can play a part in the creation of it — Happy Doug.

Also, would love to have a chat with Elon Musk at some point — I am sure you are bored of that response but — what a good chap.
