Simon Brazier, a local boy from the Tunbridge Wells area, has been involved in the food industry since he was fourteen. He trained in London and has worked in both Spain and Australia. Simon is married to Kerry and they have four young children. They live in Langton Green.

I popped round to their house to interview Simon on the following:

How long have you been working at The Dorset Arms?

Almost four years.

Was there any one person who particularly inspired you to become a chef?

I baked with my Nan as a child. Spending time in the kitchen with her inspired me to pursue a career in catering.

Where do you source the majority of your produce?

Seasonal produce such as beef, lamb, venison and game is sourced from our Buckhurst Estate. Where possible we source our other ingredients from local suppliers.

What makes The Dorset Arms successful?

When we refurbished The Dorset Arms we invested the money carefully. The refurbishment has made the pub a warm and welcoming place to be. We provide simple lunches, encourage families and dogs and have made the pub the hub of the village. Locals are always made to feel more than welcome. Diners can chose a simple meal or something more substantial from our pub classics. We aim to be both flexible and friendly.

Is there anything in particular that you would recommend?

In season our Venison Wellington is very popular sourced from our Estate.

It’s a great pub for food or a swift a pint or two. After a good walk in the local area pop in for something simple to eat or join Simon and his team for Sunday lunch but you’ll need to book — it’s even open on Christmas Day!
