Day 49: Picking new fabric and receiving our sample shank

We got a bunch of sample headers the last few days. Today we spent some time looking at each and narrowing them down to three fabrics we’re going to make samples out of. The main selection criteria were: no minimum requirements on order size, less than 20% stretch material, a quick turnaround time (or running fabric as it’s called), and the color / feel of the denim. The color of the denim changes considerably in sunlight, so as you can see from the picture below we compared them outside on top of a mailbox.

At first and on a quick glance, all the denim kind of looks the same. But after looking more closely and feeling each of the denim headers, you start to notice and appreciate the subtle differences in texture, softness, fiber, stretch, and color. In the end, we settled on three fabrics that we like and fit our needs.

We also received a sample of our shank today. I liked how it turned out. Over time the shank material will oxidize and get even darker in color.
