I pay over $100 for my activewear: The Value of Lululemon
About a year ago, I started to get really into health and fitness and went to the gym almost every day. I started wearing athleisure much more often so I could quickly and easily go from class to the gym. I loved brands like Fabletics and Gym Shark that sold affordable gym wear but started to notice that my leggings wouldn't sit well when I would run and I couldn't find a pair of shorts that were comfortable and flattering at the same time. I had heard of Lululemon and had one pair of leggings from them that I got as a gift a few years back that had seen better days. All of my friends would rave about the Lululemon leggings and workout shorts and how they were so comfortable to work out in and I was always intrigued but could never afford them as a work-study college student.
After I graduated from college in May 2020 and started to work, I decided to buy a pair of the Lululemon Wunder Train leggings and I was HOOKED. I had done some research about the innovative sweat-wicking material they use and I thought that it may be worth it to give them a try, despite being in the middle of a pandemic and being unable to go to the gym. I was running a lot and in the summer heat, leggings could get uncomfortable but not these. They are lightweight and breathable and retail for $98 before taxes… That was enough to make me question the purchase, but I am so glad I went through with it. They are the most comfortable running leggings as they feel like I’m wearing nothing the way they move with my body. I wound up purchasing 7 more pairs over the next few months in addition to a few shirts as well.
Lululemon was able to add more value for me compared to brands like Gym Shark and Fabletics because their leggings felt much less restrictive and also last a lot longer. I have found holes in leggings from other brands several months after purchasing them, but the Lululemon leggings that I received years ago as a gift have been worn and washed countless times and still feel new when I put them on. I get excited to wear my Lululemon gear because everytime I put them on, they have that new clothing feel to them and who doesn’t love the feeling of ‘new’? Some people may think I'm crazy for paying so much for active wear, but the quality and feel that Lululemon provides is unmatched in my opinion and I feel as though I get much more cost-per-wear compared to other brands.
