The Joys and Pitfalls of Online Selling

It could be a fast and easy way to be rid of no-longer-needed stuff —as long as nothing goes wrong

I could go on forever talking about the wonderful, helpful, encouraging people I’ve met while selling online, or I could mention the ones that made me squirm and ask myself if the aggravation was worth it.

However, I try to look on the bright and humorous side, so I’ve labeled each type of seller’s personality I’ve come across — the good, the bad, and the ugly — hoping to keep it light and funny.

1. The perfect buyer: I’ll start with this one. They accept the price you put out there, either pick up the item when they said they would, or order online and don’t try to return it. Oh, if only, they were all like this!

2. The Bargainer: Someone will offer a lower price no matter what you ask for. I’ve gotten into the habit of adding a few dollars to each item so there’s haggling room. I guess that’s human nature — but seriously, oftentimes they insult me by offering less than half of what I’m asking. This isn’t a garage sale!

3. The Watchers: If you put an item out there that’s priced too high, no one will even click on it, but the ‘watchers’ know that sooner or later you will realize…
