Building on OpenAI’s plugin announcement, a recent rundown of 20 of them that could be of use. The article only lists the ideas vs including details. But it gets you thinking of the potential. More concrete is an article on how to create these plugins.

AI regulation is sometimes more difficult than it seems, especially when it comes to foundation models. The entire effort is now in question. From the ‘Euractiv’ article:

· Foundation models have become the sticking point in this late phase of the negotiations. With the rise of ChatGPT, a popular chatbot based on OpenAI’s powerful GPT-4 model, EU policymakers have been wondering how best to cover this type of AI in the upcoming law.

· However, at a meeting of the Telecom Working Party on Thursday, a technical body of the EU Councils of Ministers, representatives from several member states, most notably France, Germany and Italy, pushed against any type of regulation for foundation models.

· Leading the charge against any regulation for foundation models in the AI rulebook is Mistral, a French AI start-up that has thrown the gauntlet to Big Tech. Cedric O, France’s former state secretary for digital, is pushing Mistral’s lobbying efforts, arguing that the AI Act could kill the company.

Not so great news from the creative angle, a new study on the impact of ChatGPT. From the ‘Medium’ article:

The study’s conclusions are hardly surprising, but which someone had to provide concrete data for, and that’s what we academics are for: the introduction of the ChatGPT generative algorithm a year ago has had significant negative effects on creative professions such as graphic designers and copywriters.

On the society front, we know that training data can have biases. A good look by Adweek (paywall) on how to counter this. The subtitle: “Biases will exist when white men are building most AI tools.”

And finally, some views from Bill Gates on how AI will shortly change all of our lives. The top four observations:

· You won’t bother with software or operating systems anymore.

· Your agent will be a frequent voice in your ear.

· Your agent will get involved in your personal relationships.

· It might even help you solve personal problems.
