Section 4 The End of Time Chapter 7

Forty three police warriors ride on horseback through the middle of the night. Forty three Sioux reservation soldiers gallop recklessly across the prairie in the darkness, racing through the forests. Horses black as shadow, ghost hooves pounding in the night; forty three Sioux warriors led by Lieutenant Bull Head charging to arrest Sitting Bull, the famous chief, shaman, and sacred dreamer.

The reservation police know exactly where they are going. No doubt some members of the posse have been to Sitting Bull’s lodge before as guests, eaten his food. The reservation police warriors creep inside Sitting Bull’s lodge and awaken the Sioux chieftain, arresting this prophet of the lance and shield. Sitting Bull complies meekly.

One of Sitting Bull’s seven wives arises to complain bitterly. “My husband is a coward” she wails. “I hope they kill you so I can find a brave young buck who will make vigorous love to me.”

Sitting Bull shrugs and only asks that his favorite horse be saddled.

As always there are many people living in and around Sitting Bull’s lodge. There are family, friends, guests, and invited strangers. The one thing they all have in common is they are all Ghost Dancers and followers of Wovoka. There are over one hundred and fifty Ghost Dancers and…
