Those Who Can Write Do, Those Who Can’t, Teach Writing

Some writers become best-selling authors, and others end up teaching writing to people who become best-selling authors. Both have their place in this world. Is one of these two roles better than the other?

What About Those Who Teach Writing?

I often think of the quote, “Those who can do, and those who can’t, teach,” when it comes to writing. That’s how I feel right now.

People who teach writing obviously know how to write. It doesn’t mean that they’ve somehow “failed” at being an author and are now “doomed” to a fallback career in teaching.

Some teachers have their reasons for teaching and not becoming a world-renowned author. It rarely has much to do with talent.

For instance, some writers may have geographical limitations because they’re married with a family. For this reason, they might not have the chance to relocate across country for a journalism job.
