Leaving Vienna, we took a short 60 min boat ride to Bratislava for our next adventure. It was pretty funny….. you ride in the boat and all of a sudden you see a rock with the Austrian flag on one side, and Slovakian flag on the other… and that is your boarder crossing 😊

We had to go to Bratislava because Maeghan’s friend Michal is from there. She has known him for almost 7 years now and when they first met, Maeghan promised him that she would come visit his home country… and so they did!

It was so amazing to have a friend to hang out with and be normal humans. We saw a movie, went to the mall, ate cakes/ice cream and played board games in-between doing a historical tour or two.

Michal you are the best, thank you so much for introducing us to amazing food, history and of course your home. 🙂 (hug!)

Boat ride to Bratislava from Vienna, full of bachelor parties!

Traditional Slovakian meal — it was delicious!!!

A communist design that look out over a bridge, now known as the UFO & Restaurant

Various times through out the day with people taking pictures with the working man.

St. Michaels Gateway was one of a few pillars that surrounded the city and later removed to make way for the city to grow. This one remained as a reminder of their strength.

We assumed it was just named after our friend Michal 😉

This blue church is the 2nd most photographed thing in Bratislava. Apparently a lot of tourists get lost finding it, but it is actually across the street from where Michal went to school. 😃

Maeghan: “Guys…. Look Natural…”
The old Jewish district that was demolished and replaced with a highway.
This fortress protected the city from the Napoleonic troops, the Turks and more. It survived all these battles.. the walls are between 8 and 12 meters thick! But after Napoleon’s troops decided to quit and go home, a fire started inside the fortress caused by the Slovaks and lite their massive gunpowder reserves… BOOM!

This is one of the most photographed things in Bratislava. We had to walk around the old town a few days to actually find a time when people were distracted by a street fashion show to get a picture with him.

Also, if you rub the working man’s head you will have good fortune.

We walked by this building and realized that every roof that is green is actually suppose to look like this!

We went to the Beer & Burger festival which was wayyyyy more fun than any of us had anticipated. Michal’s favorite band Puding Pani Elvisovej who put on a heck of a show. Michal & Maeghan were dancing with all the kids and Oli was drinking all the beer.
