Beyond the Rules of Engagement on Medium

There are a lot of articles on Medium about the rules of engagement. The main assumption behind them is that everyone who writes on Medium wants or hopes to make big money. Therefore, it is important to know how to optimize your writing and engagement patterns to boost your earnings.

It looks like I represent the minority that does not believe in making big money on Medium. Not that I don’t care about my earnings. I do, but it is not why I’m here.

I’m on Medium for crowd wisdom, not for crowd funds.

While reading other people’s stories, I often search for answers to the questions of my own life. Sometimes I find them, and it feels great.

Another reason is the sheer intellectual pleasure of meeting some brilliant minds on Medium.

Sometimes, an emotional connection with a parallel life story may make me laugh or cry or offer some empathetic comments or even humble advice based on my life experience.

Sometimes, a level-headed practical article posted by someone with more knowledge or experience might be exactly what I need to resolve a personal conundrum.
