Almost everyone has been to school (spoiler alert: it’s still the same (mostly). And it sucked for most of you, if not all of you since we had to follow rules, do homework, study for assessments, stress for exams, and the list goes on. But why did we hate school that much?

Theoretically, school should be a place to learn, to explore the vast seas of knowledge. School should be the place where we feel like scientists, writers, historians, and artists. School should be a place to feel safe and loved, it should be an environment where we can touch the skies.

At least… That’s what we were told.

An institution for educating children

That seems logical, school is a place, an institution where children get educated intellectually, morally, and socially, …

But what is “to educate”?

“To educate” comes from the Latin words educare which means to train or to mold and educere which means to lead out.

Have you realised? Schools are more, if not mostly educare and rarely educere, they aren’t leading what’s within us, they’re more like training us, subconsciously.

Does that sound familiar to you? training us.

About 200 years ago, a region in Germany known by Prussia started changing the ways of education. Their goal was to prepare a generation of loyal, literate citizens prepared for war.

As so, they basically invented the first “modern” school system that has evolved into what we use today.

It was great, literacy rates skyrocketed and the Prussian army was stronger than ever. However, it contributed to nationalism — one of the main drivers of World War I.

And worst of all, this system used education as a mask for indoctrination.

Kids were taught to follow orders, be disciplined, and speak only when the teacher asked a question. Even the places were arranged in a factory-like setting. It was what they wanted.

Children are not taught to think — but to take orders — be followers, not leaders.

That’s why we see very few leaders and many workers. That is why half of the world’s net wealth belongs to the top 1%. It is all related to this slave-like system.

The solution? Fix this 200-year-old broken system, by actually making it into an environment where children can touch the skies, and feel like they can become whatever they want to be whether that be a scientist, an artist, or a business person. And not depress them by forcing them to follow orders like slaves.

I am glad that you took the time to read my post and I hope this inspired you to think and research more into this matter. If you liked this post, this other one that I made might also interests you!

Once again, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for reading.
