The Mirror

AI is trained on us. It is trained on what we have said, what we have done, and what we have created and destroyed. AI, therefore, acts as an external witness, the great mirror reflecting the collective body of humanity and its values.

As its learning accelerates, it will not just reflect our knowledge, our interests, our fears and our blind spots, it will begin to act upon them. It will begin to shape the world according to the patterns we’ve either knowingly or unknowingly, taught it to value.

So what is it really seeing, and by extension, what are we really teaching it?

Ego and Projection

Ego

Ego dominates politics, media, and many relationships. In my experience, ego is synonymous with self-defence. The more defensive we are, the more entrenched in our individual identity we seem to become.

Stronger defenses = stronger ego.

What is being defended? — the truth about ourselves. We’re always defending our vulnerability, our honesty, our love, and a sense of deep peace. That, it seems, is worth protecting — almost reactively so.
