Coop & June

He was known as “Coop,” a man who never smoked or drank, was quiet and boyish, virginal, warm and polite. He was completely good, if you can imagine such a thing, just a sweetheart. And he got embarrassed easily. And he blushed a lot.

She was June. There was a mysteriousness to her. And a deep sadness in her eyes. She struggled with alcoholism and medical issues. But she had a lovely smile and as a singer, she was one of the best. Her voice though sometimes throaty and sounding forced, was also cool and jazzy with a laid back sound.

So different, yet so in love, Bob Cooper and June Christy married young, then spent almost half a century of life together. It was said that they were one of the best liked couples in the LA jazz scene.
