Florene Miller Watson, A WASP Pilot

“Mr. Miller, whatever possessed you to buy an airplane?”
“Well, I could have justified it for my business.”
This would have been reasonable — he had five jewelry stores in town surrounding the Odessa, Texas area. But he said, “That’s not really why I bought it. I think that America’s going to get in the war. I want my children to be able to contribute to the war effort.”
Her father’s prediction would come true. And even after watching her father and brother die in a plane accident, Florene Miller Watson still got back into a plane and join the war effort as a pilot in WASP.
