I recently found myself driving back to North Carolina to help my youngest son attend to a few things. I had come from Albuquerque, New Mexico, via Edwardsville, Illinois, and as I entered the westernmost border of North Carolina from Tennessee, I was struck by what I think of as the haunting beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The late afternoon shades of blue and gray layered one on top of the other and gave the world a rather somber look much like this photo:

And it was that somberness of the mountains which, in turn, reminded me of the story of Zebb Quinn, a young man who disappeared from Asheville, North Carolina, one Sunday evening.

I first became acquainted with the story of Zebb Quinn when I watched an episode of Disappeared. Like so many of the stories that this series examined, the viewer was left with more questions than answers, and the case of Zebb Quinn was no exception.

Who was Zebb Quinn?

Born May 12, 1981, Zebb Quinn was 18 years old when he disappeared. By all accounts, he was a sweet and thoughtful young man. Conscientious, responsible, reliable — these might be some of the words the people who knew him would use to describe Zebb.
