Hades’ personality is cold, but he’s fair. Some opinions say that Hades is not in Twelve Olympians, but I decided to include him in the Twelve Olympians because I like him!

His most powerful weapon is the “Cap of Invisibility” that makes you invisible. Hades is also called “Pluto” in Roman mythology.

He is the god who controls the underworld, minerals and death. His symbols are Cerberus (Three headed dog), Narcissus, Cypress and Cap of Invisibility.

He is focused on his work and was totally different from Zeus who focused on women. He didn’t have as many romances as Zeus and Poseidon! He is a quirk in the Twelve Olympians because he is mysterious and gloomy. He rarely went to Mount Olympus because he liked to stay in the underworld!

He’s not so romantic but he has a very famous love story. Let me tell you about this love story — The Devil’s Romance!

Hades saw a very beautiful goddess called “Persephone”. Immediately, he was hooked by her but he was afraid to do anything. Why? Because Persephone’s mother is “Demeter”. Who is Demeter ? She is one of the Twelve Olympians. Demeter loved her daughter so much that she didn’t allow anyone near Persephone. Hades had known it so he was troubled for a long time.

Finally, he came up with a way to make her to become his wife. One day, Persephone was playing with her girlfriends in the fields of flowers. Suddenly she saw a beautiful narcissus with a special purple and silver color. She had never seen so beautiful and wonderful a flower. But actually this flower was a trap that Hades set. Persephone picked it up and the ground suddenly cracked a deep hole. A man jumped from the underground was sitting in a gold chariot towed by two dark horses. That was Hades. He grabbed Persephone by the wrist then forced her to sit by his side and go down to the underworld. The sudden action made Persephone very scared so that she cried out for help. But no one helped her because everyone was scared and ran away.

Demeter was very very angry and sad when she heard the news. She took the action that the ground couldn’t grow anything, the seeds couldn’t germinate and humans would starve to death because her most beloved daughter had been kidnapped. The world would end because of this terrible thing!

At last Zeus had to intervene. He ordered a lot of gods to persuade Demeter to calm down but she didn’t listen to anyone. She said she would not stop the action until she saw her daughter. Zeus knew that Hades must let Persephone go home, so he assigned a god to the underworld to deliver his order and asked Hades to hand over Persephone. Hades was very sad because he must obey Zeus’ order. He pled with Persephone to eat a pomegranate when she was going to leave. Persephone didn’t feel weird so she ate some of pomegranate then she left the underworld.

Demeter was so happy when she saw her beloved daughter coming back. She started to stop the bad action. The world recovered from its horrible situation and started to restore the original appearance. But things were not so simple! Hades didn’t want to give up so easily. Hades pled with Persephone to eat the pomegranate of the underground because he knew that once you ate the food of the underground then you must come back. The fact will force Persephone to spend four months in a year with Hades in the underworld.

The result of story causes that there are three seasons in old Greek. Demeter was sad when Persephone was in the underground and the world became winter. When Persephone came back from the underworld, Demeter was so happy and the world become spring.
