An astutely scientific observation: Human children, regardless of time, place or era come pre-programmed with the ability to (1) barter various desirable items such as marbles and candy and (2) play the ‘running game’. The exact rules vary, but the ‘running game’ proceeds as follows. A group of kids decide to race towards some imaginary finishing line. One of the kids ‘wins’, the rest join forces to dispute the victory by arguing that the the winner started early, misrepresented the finish line, etc. A re-race is promptly organized. Regardless of the specifics, everyone wants to come first.

I told you they were pre-programmed to play the ‘Running Game’!

As adults, we continue to entertain ourselves with a similar version of the ‘running game’ in various forms: promotions at work, monetary wealth, college admissions, and what not. Without exception, we want to come first as we did when we were children. Often, we dispute the validity of the race, and keep entering new ones until we die. But what if, I told you there was a race you could come first in each and every time you tried? The results would be absolutely indisputable, and beyond question.

Do you know what this race is?

Ans: Being yourself.

By definition, you are the best at being yourself. Others, no matter how gifted or talented, may try as hard, but will only come second — each and every time. By the same logic, if you try to be Adi Tyagi, you will come second. I can guarantee you that as only I am the best at being Adi Tyagi. As with most people, I love running in races where I come first always. So why don’t you run a race where you will always win? The world is too bland without the unique contribution that is yours to make.

And what is the reward of winning this race? Interactions with your peers that overflow with authenticity, a naturally ‘front foot’ lifestyle, and a sense of irrevocable security in yourself, that culminates in a positive feedback loop, that further helps you grow your identity.
