INCLUDED City CEO
INCLUDED provides a baseline of essential opportunities to migrants living in urban slums. We do this through one-stop-shop community center platforms, what we call a Community in a Box.

Organizations have many founding moments and this is one of them for INCLUDED. After nearly a decade of experience in migrant slums in Asia, we are decentralizing into a global network of social enterprises that are linked together in pursuit of inclusive cities for migrant slums. We seek out and respond to a small founding group of social entrepreneurs who want to open and lead INCLUDED in their city.
INCLUDED City Partners become member partners in the larger global network. There are emerging members in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. They will share values and a commitment to creating better futures for migrant communities. They will share a focus on the community center model (the Community in a Box). And they will innovate on top of that platform according to local need. They are somewhat semi-autonomous yet committed to contributing as a member of the INCLUDED network. They are guided and supported by a lean mothership team in San Francisco.
Mandate: Builds the engine that energizes and drives the city organization and connects it with the global network.
The City CEO plays several essential roles:
- Purpose. Ensures clarity of purpose and strength of culture throughout the organization.
- People. Ensures the right people are in the right place and then manages that team’s energy and rhythm.
- Product. Ensures clarity and simplicity of programmatic approach around the Community in a Box community center framework.
- Profit. We don’t make it but ensures sufficient resources for the organization.
- Champion. Serves as a champion for the cause of urban slumdwellers and as a champion for the partnership network.
- Simplicity. Ensures simplicity is prioritized throughout the organization. Simplifying things down not to stupidity but down to their essence.
- Essence. Distinguishes between the extraneous and the critical.
The City CEO leads the organization’s overall performance, effectiveness, and operations in the city. They ensure clarity, alignment, and resources across the organization. They manage the core team and work with their local board of directors, while also serving on the board. Ultimately, the City CEO builds the engine which energizes and drives INCLUDED’s purpose in their city.
There is a focus on reducing friction in two ways.
- Reduce friction for urban slumdwellers to get a baseline of essential services so they can better design their lives, their communities, and their cities (Purpose)
- Reduce friction for partner organizations to accomplish this (Community in a Box product and organization support)
