Au Cheval Single Cheeseburger with Bacon

“Magnez Bien”, the french term, translated means “eat well”, and that I did this lovely fall evening in September. I saw it fitting to continue the french theme since my exploration led me to nation and city renowned Au Cheval for a dinner with friends. First off, misconception on what I was going to — went in thinking I was going to have a hearty plate of spaghetti and meatballs — couldn’t of been more wrong. Turns out it was an upscale diner with one of, if not the best, burger in the nation (if you read this Au Cheval, you’re #1 in my books). To start off, this diner is the bees knees. The title of “diner” is extremely misleading, it is more a modern-hipster-bar-with-small-kitchen. That would be my title if I were to give it one. Au Cheval is known for their burgers so that is what I decided on. A single** cheeseburger with bacon — plain. I can hear the chuckle and criticism for not ordering it with condiments and here is what I say to those naysayers — NAYYYYYYYY. Condiments are extra for food that needs that additional kick of flavor.

Places where it is acceptable to use condiments

  • Fast food restaurants
  • Graduation parties
  • Your parent’s cooking
  • Any type of cafeteria setting
  • If you are drunk

Condiments are nothing but an idea that you are conditioned to think, from previous generations, go on meals you order. In reality, you are missing out on what you should be tasting! Au Cheval’s pure beef patties were packed with flavor they must be fed by God himself. These burgers were cooked to perfection that the waiter/waitress didn’t even have to ask how I wanted mine cooked, she just knew and understood my needs.. The single burger I ordered is actually two that are stacked upon each other. This creation was layered with the perfect cheese-to-burger ratio — succulent, crispy, tender, maple glazed bacon making my mouth water the second my eyes locked with this beautiful burger. This meal was phenomenal. That doesn’t not even cover half of how I feel. The word isn’t even created to describe the emotions I felt when I bit into this glorious beef beast. It was like the first time I heard The Beatles. The first time I rode my bike without training wheels. This burger could bring world peace people. It was gone within minutes. I didn’t put it down for a second, I couldn’t! It was glued to my hands as if we were one, in our own Tom and Au Cheval burger world. It lived up to the hype and even surpassed it. Touché Au Cheval, touché.
