Title of a test story

I am just beginning to use Medium and in order to understand how all this stuff works, I need a test story. This is such a story.

The first image in the story is supposed to be the title image and is posted as so in Facebook or Twitter. Let’s try it:

A photo of NGC 1530

So, right now, the title image of this story should be NGC 1530. As a reverse image, or negative of the original plate. By the way, it comes from the MAST DSS web site found here: https://stdatu.stsci.edu/dss/

Moving right along, I should also be able to put in a mention and it should notify me in my twitter updates. OK, so I’ll use my own handle and see what happens. Here goes: Bruce Rout Done.

Now to publish this and see what happens.

Back to the Drawing Board

Well that seemed to work. The photo of NGC 1530 came up ans the title image and I got a notification of a mention with link in my email. So far, so good. Now let’s see if I can change the title image.

Ok, the image is now loaded, time to jump to an instruction link.

Great! Well, if you edit title/subtitle and/or the title image after you publish your post, take a look at this post to learn how to fix this on Facebook: https://medium.com/@gueldner/how-to-fix-your-facebook-card-98d9810c6df3

Twitter has a similar tool, but it usually refreshes the card automatically after a few hours: https://cards-dev.twitter.com/validator

OK, I clicked on the image of M101 and hit CTL-alt-8, (I use Ubuntu and Chromium), and the image went from a green border to no border, so it recognized that I did something, but don’t know what. I’ll post to FB and then hack the code as prescribed. Here goes.

Nope. Didn’t work. It takes a little time for the URL of this post to hit the FB debugger, which is here: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=https%3A%2F%2Fmedium.com%2F%40bbrout%2Ftitle-of-a-test-story-46eb76a621a2%23.89mzbwlb6

But is seems obvious the cntl-alt-8 didn’t grab and latch to the point to the new title image. Bummer. Have to fix that.

Nope, you definitely cannot change the title image as far as I can tell using Ubuntu, chromium and ctl-alt-8. It simply doesn’t seem to work. If I can get it to go, I’ll let you know eh.

I was also wondering how to do a published thread on this thing. Like, I have been trying things out and then re-publishing. Is there a way to continue a thread like on FB and publish it? Like a series? I think that is what the publication thing is for. Hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I think I’ll try playing with that and see what bugs I can find. Later.
