It feels really cliche to say I was disappointed to read this after loving The Rosie Project but it’s just true.

I wasn’t expecting the same plot obviously and it’s right that the author tried something different but maybe its a case of it’s not you Adam it’s me.

I just did not emotionally connect to a single character or relationship (romantic or family). The whole thing left me feeling completely unmoved. In my opinion it felt at times like the music and food references were relied on to give the connection to the reader, that sensory response, that quite frankly the characters did not provide.

It also ‘jumped the shark’ for me shortly after the ‘lemon tree’ moment and until that part of the book where a downhill descent started it would have been more like a 3 star as it was a quick read and had some humour that I enjoyed.
