But Betrayal is Always Singular
10 kings, and 10 different times
in procession but they all smile,
see-through humans in stock photo
galleries of promising despots
with thumbs up.
But betrayal is always singular.
Once, like today
the 11 promises of 10 kings were,
like half-leavened loaves
of bromate and air,
cast- into our waiting mouths,
with wriggling betrayals for sammiches,
from hulking flotsams of bobbing bling,
on pretty redundancies of cutting grins,
to keep them buoyed above
us all and what we think,
world without end.
Because betrayal is always singular.
