Ending Awareness To Action: Ending World Hunger Is Our First Priority

"Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life."- Nelson Mandela

Hunger is defined as a condition in which a person does not have the physical or financial capability to eat sufficient food to meet basic nutritional needs for a sustained period.

In many cases, hunger results from food supply disruptions caused by poverty, war, plagues, or adverse weather. Around the world, more than enough food is produced to feed the global population - but as many as 829 million people go hungry affecting nearly 10% of people globally.

What is your role in preventing the hunger of the world?

We are one big family called the human race. Don’t we feel hurt if something happens to our family members? Each day more than 25,000 people, including more than 10,000 children die of hunger and related causes around the world.

When a poor man dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed. There is enough in the world for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed.

Of course, you have a duty and responsibility to feed the poor people living around the world, especially in your country. Hundreds of advertisements are put by the United Nations, international and regional NGOs, in print, electronic media, and on social media asking for people's help in the form of donations.

Why don't you send a few dollars saved from your pocket money to buy a new pair of jeans or a shirt the next fall?

I would encourage some others who are willing, to cancel a birthday party or a merry-making get-together, to save the money and give it to whoever is ready to feed the poor people around you.

We are bound by the divine law of the universe to help our brethren in times of basic needs in their lives.

Most of us have not experienced acute hunger in our lives and hence don't take it seriously, the things I have mentioned in this article.

Don't worry. It is not your fault but the problem with the new generation living in our society. Let us not waste money unnecessarily, by indulging in the luxuries of life.

As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality exist in our world, none of us can truly rest. The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.

I want to sink a thought into your mind that, if you had money and not feed a hungry person residing near you, it is a sin of omission and answerable before God on the judgment day.
