If you’re a Bubble developer and you have been tinkering with Bubble build guides and page generator you may be feeling a little insecure, because that AI hands founders a large chunk of what we developers do in minutes, free of charge.
But if you have ever built anything for a client, you would know founders will always need bubble developers.
Here’s why:
1. It’s a great start, but it’s far from complete.
The first generated version of a single page is never the final product, no matter how good it may be. A prompt is not a PRD, it can only contain so much. So a founder will always need to dig into the result of the generator, try to learn Bubble then use that knowledge to follow the build guides and make what they imagine a reality.
2. Reverse engineering a product is not easy
From experience, it takes more effort to reverse engineer something that is already built than trying to build it from scratch. So new founders will have a head-start with Bubble AI but they still need help understanding how it was built that way and why before they can continue on their own.
3. So a founder MUST learn Bubble to DIY it..
They need to understand Bubble completely to build the components, design data structure, implement workflows, create & connect APIs, optimize performance, understand security, Authentication, etc…all on their own. Which they almost never have the time or patience to learn. So they eventually come to us.
4. …nontechnical founders don’t want to be involved at all,
I have real experience of people offering to pay extra, if the service provider would take care of anything that requires effort without giving them a headache with all the details. Non technical founders only care about the live product. Development is not their thing.
5. and even founders who want to learn Bubble, need our help while they learn.
Bubble is extremely powerful, but the learning curve is somewhat steep. If you take a look at the forums Questions & Need Help sections, you will see that anyone new to Bubble usually requires someone to hold their hands while they tackle small problem after small problem while they learn and build their apps. That is a good place to find gigs.
So how can a Bubble developer take advantage of Bubble AI ?
Bubble developers, on other hand, already understand Bubble. So when we use AI to generate a page, it takes us no effort to reverse engineer it and understand what has been generated. We immediately start building on it and tweaking what must be tweaked.
When we receive a PRD, we can reduce it to a prompt to generate build guides, then use the page generator to save us time doing the tedious work of building the skeleton of the page and creating the datasets and relationships. Then we fix the UI, data and workflows and keep going.
