Stream of Consciousness
I guess one of the downsides of living with a housemate is the lack of silence that you get; it’s one of the biggest downsides that comes to mind as of now. I write this as my brain keeps on churning even more downsides. But thinking about it doesn’t help anything.
As I internally discussed how to name this virtual thought pad, several names came to mind; names that never struck a chord within. I was looking for something along the lines of a notepad, a place where I could jot down my thoughts, digitally, of course.
Enter Stream of Consciousness, a psychological term that is used to refer to the flow of thoughts in the conscious mind. This terminology has derived from studies which have shown that “we only experience one mental event at a time as a fast-moving mind stream…” also referring to “the full range of thoughts that one can be aware of [and] can form the content of this stream”. And paraphrasing from another field, if explained in literary technique, it is equivalent as an internal monologue, the thought process that occurs by explaining one’s point of view.
*Patting myself on the back for churning out that paragraph*
In addition, a brain dump is the transferring of ideas from the conscious mind into a physical medium, be it a person or a digital device, to be later retrieved; in summary, I felt it described the purpose of this little space in this world-wide-web rather well and concisely.
But, don’t quote me on these explanations, given they were taken from Wikipedia. *chuckles*
So let’s do some math: stream of consciousness (my stream of thoughts throughout the day and/or at the moment) + brain dump (transferring of those ideas into this medium) = this blog (literally).
