Upcycling a Stool into a Palette Table

I have a goal in 2025 of completing a small DIY project every week. Here’s last week’s project.
I bought a little stool at my local auction about a year ago. The kidney shape of it was appealing to me. It’s vintage — from the 1960s or 70s — and solidly made. It was also kind of plain and boring.
I needed a short little table to put by my sofa, to hold things like a book or a drink or the remote. To serve the purpose a coffee table would, but without taking up so much room.
So, this week’s DIY was to upcycle that stool.
I started on Pinterest, looking for ideas for painting it. I found this:
Super cute. If you look at the little print, you’ll see someone is selling it for $700. That’s not happening — but it looked simple enough to recreate. And my stool has a good shape for it.
