What I Wore: Experimenting With Understanding My Style Identity

Soft Natural . . . I think, maybe?

There’s this theory that everyone’s body and face has some sort of balance between yin (feminine or soft energy) and yang (masculine or sharp energy.) A lot of people (mostly women) who are interested in personal style and figuring out their colors are also interested in figuring out their body type.

David Kibbe is the godfather of body type, apparently.

You can go to New York and have him type you, but it takes several days and costs a small fortune. You can also buy his book, which was written in the 1980s and is out of print and also costs a small fortune (but considerably less than meeting with the man in person.)

And then there are a bunch of people who aren’t Kibbe who are willing to help you try to figure out your style identity using his methods.

And then other people who have their own methods.

Rachel Nachmias has a book called The Face of the Business where she describes a style archetype system that’s similar to Kibbe’s system, but not quite the same. (I’m pretty sure that I’m a muse in her system. Which, you know, as a writer appeals to me!)
