On January 23, India and Indians by heart celebrate Parakram Diwas, the day of courage and valor to honour the bravery and valor of Netaji, and to inspire future generations to follow his ideals of courage and sacrifice.

The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, one of the leading freedom fighters of India. Most importantly, the younger generation is encouraged to act with courage when faced with challenges.

He is my favorite hero. To me, the interpretation of ‘hero’ has a much wider sense — a person who overcomes almost insurmountable difficulties for a noble cause. No obstacles, no difficulties, and no temptations could daunt his spirit.

Born with a silver spoon in his mouth in a rich Bengali family in the state of Odisha in 1897, he had everything that a worldly human being would desire. He could have rolled in wealth and passed his days in ease and comfort.

Tum mujhe khoon do, mai tumhe azadi doonga (Give me blood, I shall give you freedom)- Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
