They don’t inaugurate inside one’s mind
A blank slate painted with riddles of hormonal reaction
fear, ecstasy, grief, satisfaction
There are no “whys” in attendance
until your hand
in the dark
discovers the latch

Doors are for opening,

right?

And so you do,
just a smidge,
more like an air’s breadth,
as if the door was held shut tightly against the united,
mingled
breaths of so many unasked questions
straining in its frame
but now the portal heaves to and fro
its aperture growing with each
laden breath
each exhalation ripe with stimulating
erogenous
titillating
confusing and maddening
catechisms.

And so they enter,
Never single file and woefully unrequested.
Every single attempt to close it

Is there one caught in the door jamb?

You can’t just leave it there.

fails

and you are

with them

trapped
