Dear fellow teachers and friends,

Hope you are having a relaxing Sunday so far. June was an eventful month for us at A Teacher’s Hat and I am excited to share the good news with you. :-)

With the help of the #T2T community, we welcomed 8 new writers to our team! They are all educators with diverse set of skills and I look forward to learning from them as they share their experiences here.

Apart from that, in writings we explored the following areas:

(1) The month started off with a deeper look into what the first few weeks of being a student teacher look like. I narrated my friend, Peter’s experiences here. Related to that, I also wrote about Tenure, a very old video game which simulates the first year of teaching.

(2) Varun presented his insights of the first part of Teach Like a Pirate by Dave Burgess. He also elaborated upon the application of engineering industry processes to education in his article on sequencing.

(3) Andrew shared his experiences with the Social-emotional learning technique of Circle the Wagon and how it has benefitted his students in Japan.

(4) As promised, I explored Universal Design for Learning further and wrote about lesson planning with UDL elements.

Coming up this month, our new writers will be taking the lead! :)

Aaron will be telling us about Professional Learning Communities and how his school organizes and coordinates them to support student sucess. Complimenting that, Andrew will be writing about professional development for educators.

Melissa will be sharing her experiences with Flipgrid and I bet she will convince you to Flipgrid with your students. Varun and I are reading Inquiry Mindset by Trevor Mackenzie and Rebecca Bathurst-Hunt who are running a book club through flipgrid this month.

We will be learning from Ginger about Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), focusing on gamification using Classcraft.

Varun has been interested in the difference between assessments and grades for a while, hence, he will be dedicating an article to that.

My promised article on engagement vs empowerment should be out too this month.

Apart from these, there are more articles in the works that we hope to write and share.

The first article will be out on the 4th of July. Like previous months, you can expect new articles every 5 days, hence, 4,9,14,19,24,29 July. More the merrier, so I will not rule out the possibility of an extra article somewhere. ;)

Have a great July! For those of you who will be going on vacations soon, have a great time! :)

Regards,

Kriti
