With the rise in PledgeMusic and Kickstarter campaigns, elimination of labels and increase in digital downloads, changes in the music industry have been apparent over the past few years. More and more acts are gaining fans through YouTube and drawing in upwards of a million views on each video they make.

Last year, I went to the first DigiTour, created by Greenhouse Entertainment. Although none of my friends knew what I was talking about and what kind of a concert this was, I had an open mind and wanted to see for myself what was to be created. What I found was a group of talented artists from YouTube, fans from all different ‘social groups’ and an entertaining two hours of music and comedy. Earlier this year, I chatted with Asher Monroe about this year’s tour and what he was looking forward to being new in the tour.

Though he didn’t exactly know what to expect, he was more than excited to debut his new solo project to a live audience. When we caught up a few days into tour, his lack of sleep had yet to catch up and his excitement to perform was visible from across the parking lot. Joining Asher on the tour was Alex Goot and Chad Sugg, Wellington featuring Ricky Ficarelli, Dave Days and The Key of Awesome. A mix of pop rock, comedy, singer/songwriter music and more was delivered on Sunday March 11th at Club Red in Tempe Arizona. Being the fourth show on the tour, the kinks were still being worked out, but the show ran smoothly and everyone performed their hearts out. The energy in the small venue radiated from the stage and back and the audience sang along to all the songs of all the artists. Fans screamed when their favorites crossed the stage and were ecstatic to meet their YouTube idols after the show when everyone hung out. The tour shows the power of social media and music today. Without websites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, few, if any, of these artists would have the same success. If DigiTour is coming to a city near you, make SURE to check out the show! And while at the show, try one of the drinks by Neuro who sponsors the tour. (We tried Bliss and Trim and both were yummy!)
