2014 is going to be a big year for me, personally, but it will also be a big year for Karmin. After being stuck in record label limbo with their first full length album, Pulses, the duo is finally getting closer to a release date and couldn’t be happier. Friday night in Philadelphia, it was day three of their first headlining tour and the energy was off the charts. From the moment I walked into TLA, the first few hundred fans were already dancing and partying to the live DJ playing music before the show truly started.

Bryce Vine

At 8 pm, newcomer Bryce Vine took to the stage to add another level of energy and get people “turnt up” and ready for Karmin. His energetic 30 minute set kept the room engaged as he played new hits like “Where The Wild Things Are” and “Take Me Home.” It was a fun way to start out my first concert of the year and got me in the mood for some more live music.

Karmin

By 9 pm, it was time for Karmin to take to the stage. In their all red outfits, they picked up where Vine had left off with their new hit “I Want it All.” Keeping the energy high, Amy and Nick danced and sang their way around the stage. Things slowed down briefly about halfway through with new ballad, “Neon Love,” but quickly picked back up with “Walking On The Moon” and “Try Me On.” Finally, they rounded out the night with their iconic cover of Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now” and their hit single, “Brokenhearted.” Being the fifth time I’ve seen the duo in the past few years, I know what to expect from one of their shows at this point, but I truly enjoy seeing Karmin every time and always make it a point to try to catch them when they’re in town. Getting to see 16 songs instead of the typical five allowed in an opening set made for an even better experience. I felt that I finally had a true sense of their versatility and of what I can expect from this upcoming album.

Karmin

Even though it’s already February, it was the perfect concert to start out the year, for me at least. Karmin is one of those duos that, if they are in your area, I highly suggest making plans to go see. Not only is their set always exciting and full of energy, but Amy and Nick also truly pour their heart and soul into each performance. Plus, who doesn’t love a white girl that can rap like Nicki Minaj?!
